Children
Available:
Healthy, male and female infants, toddlers
and older children.
Travel Requirements:
There are two ways. You can go
one trip if the orphanage allows it or you can do two trips. If you only
go once it will be for about three weeks and you will return with your
child.
Two trips are
required by some orphanages to adopt from Nepal. The first trip to Nepal
requires a minimum of five working days. The second trip is
approximately 15 working days in length and your child will come home on
this trip.
Length of Process:
Adoptions from Nepal generally
take 6-8 months from the time of referral.
Referrals can take approximately three months .
Criteria:
Married couples and single women
are eligible to adopt from Nepal
Couples must be married for at least four years and have documented
infertility. They must be between 30 and 50 years old. Parents must be
at least 30 years older but not more than 45 years older than the child
they adopt. For couples, this is based on the age of the oldest spouse.
Single women can adopt from Nepal. They must be between 35 and 55 years
old to adopt.
Nepal law
dictates that you can only have one child of each sex. If you already
have a son, you must adopt a daughter, if you have a daughter, you must
adopt a son.
Interesting Facts:
All paperwork is done in English
and most people in Nepal speak some degree of English
The children are generally given excellent care in the orphanages,
including medical care and basic education. The children are usually
healthy and are tested for HIV and Hepatitis B.
