Children
Available:
Children are available from 5-6 months up to
14 years of age. Two unrelated children may be adopted at once and
sibling groups are available. Children are generally healthy.
Travel Requirements:
Two trips are required and both
parents are required to travel to the Uzbekistan from two to three weeks
for the first trip to visit your child(children) and attend the
necessary official appointments, including the special commission called
the HOKIMAT. The second trip will be for approximately one week where
the visa is applied for at the American Embassy. Only one parent needs
to take this second trip.
Length of Process:
Adoptions from Uzbekistan can
take up to one year starting with the dossier preparation.
Criteria:
The age limit of adoptive parents
is at least 25 years of age and no more than 55 years of age. Parents
must be at least 15 years older than the adopted child. Single people
and married couples may adopt. Couples should be married at least one
year. Previously divorced individuals may also adopt.

Facts:
Under Uzbek law, the Guardianship
and Trusteeship Organ (GTO) of each local Mayor’s office is responsible
for settlement of orphans. Adoptive parents will submit documents to a
local Mayor through its GTO. U.S. This is a new program, so there could
be many changes that adoptive parents should understand.
The government
offices responsible for intercountry adoptions are the Uzbek Ministry of
Education and the local Mayor's office (“Hokimiat”) in the region where
the adoption takes place.
The dossier is
notarized and legalized at the Secretary of State. After that the
dossier will be sent for an authentication by the Uzbek Embassy in the
Washington DC, United States. After that the dossier sent to Uzbekistan
for translation into Uzbek or Russian. It is submitted to the Ministry
of Education in Uzbekistan for authentication.
The parents will
receive pictures and medical reports of their referral in about one
month of dossier submission. Once the parents accept the referral travel
can be anywhere from 3 to 6 months after. The parents will travel to
Tashkent or Samarkand or other regions of Uzbekistan.
